THAPAR INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH TEL AVIV UNIVERSITY

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology here on 19 January 2018, Friday signed a comprehensive institutional agreement with Israel"s Tel Aviv University (TAU), covering research, teaching and student exchange between both institutions.

Both of them have agreed to establish a programme for academic cooperation, bring benefits of credit transfer programmes in engineering and life sciences and participation in the israeli varsity"s summer programmes, post-doctoral fellowships and semester exchange opportunities.

TIET and TAU will also work together in research fields. With over 100 research centres, TAU, consistently ranked in the top 20 in the world in terms of scientific citations and among the top 100 universities internationally, is known for ground-breaking research, leading researchers and faculty, strong interdisciplinary focus, and the values of globalism, pluralism and social responsibility.

On signing the agreement, TAU President, Prof Joseph Klafter said: "Like Thapar University, we are strong in engineering and management and also have a wide spectrum of departments across the sciences, humanities and arts."

TIET President Gautam Thapar said that the agreement will help in strategic international partnerships and enhance the quality and reach of the varsity.

Klafter, who was chief guest at the 31st convocation of TIET gave away degrees and medals to students at the function on Friday. A total of 1,731 degrees were awarded at the convocation, including 73 PhD degrees, 693 Masters in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities and Management and 961 Bachelor"s degrees in Engineering. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, founded in 1956, is housed in a 250-acre campus in Patiala, about 70 km from Chandigarh.
